Scam Alert: Fake Police Calls Target Garda Businesses to Sell Fake Magazines

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to police magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune (Municipal Police).

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they ask for money, disappear from sight.
