Scam Alert: Impersonators Forge Carabinieri Calls to Local Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but fraudsters who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, police, fire brigade, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

Recognizing scams

They often suggest subscriptions to fake magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement (forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just call 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

if they are after money, will no longer appear.
