Scam Calls Impersonate Carabinieri: How to Recognize and Respond

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be careful and immediately notify the true Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

had the sum of money, no longer shows up.
