Scam Calls Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Residents

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

when they are after money, disappear without a trace.
