Scammers Impersonate Authorities to Target Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, craftsmen, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines associated with the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, each time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, firefighters, or municipal officers.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have no connection to the authorities.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

having the money, disappear without a trace.
