Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri in Garda Area: How to Recognize and Report

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

despite claiming to have money, disappear without a trace.
