Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri Offering Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, fire brigades, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement (le forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

when they take the cash, disappear.
