Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to fake magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately alert the actual Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after obtaining the money, disappear.
