Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Target Garda Valley Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military-related magazines.

They are not members of the armed forces, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, the fire brigade, or the Comune police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by someone who,

has obtained money and then ceases contact.
