Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Garda Businesses

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant operators in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to financial police, regular police, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those with no connection to law enforcement agencies.

So be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — simply call 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after getting the money, disappears.
