Scammers Impersonate Carabinieri to Trick Lake Garda Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs around Lake Garda’s middle and upper areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, police, fire brigades, or local police officers.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who, after taking the money, disappears.
