Scammers Impersonate Law Enforcement to Trick Garda Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurant operators in the Middle and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to magazines of the force.

However, they are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to respond

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

seek money and then disappear.
