Scammers Impersonate Police in Garda Area, Warns Carabinieri

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the central and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

These individuals are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the finance police, police force, fire brigade, or municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve fallen prey to someone who, after receiving money, disappears and no longer shows up.
