Scammers Impersonate Police to Sell Fake Magazine Subscriptions

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, craftsmen, and restaurant owners in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to the army’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipality police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those that have nothing to do with the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be vigilant and immediately notify the Carabinieri— simply dial 112— as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

after obtaining money, disappears without a trace.
