Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Businesses in Phone Fraud

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Mid and Upper Garda area, proposing subscriptions to military-related magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance police, general police, fire brigade, or municipal police (Vigili del Comune).

Recognizing scams

They often offer subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with law enforcement (forze dell’ordine).

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,

having money, disappear and are no longer visible.
