Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the middle and upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

Beware of scams and how to react

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by somebody who,

after receiving the money, disappears and is no longer seen.
