Scammers Impersonate Police to Target Local Business Owners in Garda

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to the forces’ magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or to the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the genuine Carabinieri — just call 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
