Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Business Owners

They impersonate Carabinieri when calling hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurant owners in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, police, fire brigade, or municipal police department.

Recognizing scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those that have nothing to do with law enforcement agencies.

So, be cautious and immediately alert the genuine Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who,

would seek money, but then disappears.
