Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Businesses into Paying

They impersonate Carabinieri when making telephone contact with hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda regions, offering magazine subscriptions related to the force.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, regular police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or publications that have no connection to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear without a trace.
