Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Businesses

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These are not members of the military, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the financial police, regular police, fire brigade, or Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,

seeks money and then disappears.
