Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shopkeepers

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, proposing subscriptions to the force’s magazines.

These are not military personnel but scammers who, from time to time, claim to be part of the financial police, police, firefighters, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often offer subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or titles that have nothing to do with law enforcement forces.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you’ve been targeted by individuals who,
