Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Garda Hoteliers and Shops

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to the regiment’s magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, on different occasions, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.

Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, do not appear again.
