Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hospitality and Retailers

They impersonate Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda regions, offering subscriptions to magazines of the army.

They are not soldiers, but scammers who—or from time to time—claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri – just dial 112 – as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after taking the money, disappear and do not return.
