Scammers Impersonate Police to Trick Hoteliers and Shopkeepers
They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in Medio and Alto Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not members of the military but are scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal Police.
How to recognize scams
They often suggest subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
if they are after money, will disappear without a trace.
