Scammers Impersonating Carabinieri Target Garda Businesses on Phone

They impersonate Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda, offering subscriptions to magazines related to the armed forces.

They are not police officers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the regular police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to the law enforcement.

So be cautious and immediately inform the real Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who, after receiving the money, disappear.
