Scammers Pose as Carabinieri Offering Fake Subscriptions in Garda
They pose as Carabinieri when telephonically contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to newspapers of the force.
These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance authorities, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.
How to recognize scams
They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.
Therefore, be cautious and immediately inform the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
money in hand, ceases to appear.
