Scammers Pose as Carabinieri to Trick Hoteliers and Retailers

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military magazines.

They are not law enforcement officers, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to finance, the police, firefighters, or municipal guards.

How to Recognize Scams

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or publications unrelated to the law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

if they are after money, disappear and are no longer visible.
