Scammers Pose as Police to Target Businesses in Garda Area

They pose as Carabinieri when making phone calls to hoteliers, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurants in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to military-related magazines.

These are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the Municipal police.

How to recognize scams

They often propose subscriptions to non-existent magazines or those unrelated to law enforcement agencies.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the Carabinieri by calling 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by individuals who,

after obtaining money, disappear and no longer make contact.
