Scammers Pose as Police to Trick Garda Business Owners into Fraud

They impersonate Carabinieri when contacting hotel owners, shopkeepers, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Medio and Alto Garda areas, offering subscriptions to magazines related to the armed forces.

They are not military personnel but scammers who, at different times, claim to belong to the finance police, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal police.

How to recognize scams and how to react

They often propose subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement authorities.

Therefore, be cautious and immediately notify the real Carabinieri — simply dial 112 — as soon as you suspect that you have been targeted by someone who, after obtaining the money, disappears.
