Scammers Posing as Carabinieri Target Garda Hoteliers and Business Owners
They pretend to be Carabinieri when contacting hoteliers, shop owners, artisans, and restaurateurs in the Middle and Upper Garda area, offering subscriptions to magazines of the force.
They are not military personnel, but scammers who, from time to time, claim to belong to the finance department, the police, the fire brigade, or the municipal guards.
How to recognize scams and how to react
They often suggest subscriptions to nonexistent magazines or magazines that have nothing to do with the law enforcement.
Therefore, stay alert and immediately notify the Carabinieri — just dial 112 — as soon as you suspect you have been targeted by someone who,
would have money, then disappears.
