Work continues on the safety measures along the SP38 road that connects Tremosine to Tignale, aiming to ensure the safety of the Forra tunnel and the surrounding cliffs. Today, February 25, 2025, a controlled explosion was carried out to remove a second rock spur, which is smaller than the first boulder that was destroyed on February 7. This intervention was necessary to prevent the risk of debris falling onto the road, which could pose a danger to motorists.
The Province has announced that monitoring will continue in the coming days through sensors installed both inside and outside the tunnel. If no critical issues are detected, the first phase of the work will proceed, which includes internal arching of the tunnel and the installation of additional anchors and ties on the cliff. It is hoped that the SP38 will reopen in time for the start of the new tourist season at Easter, while an update scheduled for March 7 may provide a specific date for the reopening, which will be one-way traffic. This stretch of road has been a vital link between the Tremosine plateau and the lakeside for over a century.
