Sirmione, Toscolano Maderno, and Gardone Riviera have been awarded the Blue Flag 2025, a prestigious international recognition that celebrates good practices in the sustainable management of coastal areas. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday, May 13, in Rome, at the headquarters of FEE – Foundation for Environmental Education, where the Lido Azzurro of Toscolano Maderno and the Casinò and Lido beaches of Gardone Riviera were also honored. This program, recognized by UNESCO, involves over 49 countries worldwide each year to highlight commitment to environmental protection.
The criteria for receiving the Blue Flag include the quality of water and beaches, as well as sustainable management practices such as accessibility for people with disabilities and beach safety. Additional parameters include environmental education and waste management, all assessed according to rigorous standards. At the national level, the recognition has been granted to 246 coastal municipalities and 84 tourist ports, marking an increase compared to the previous year.
