A strategic plan to address the issue of overtourism has been presented in Sirmione, aimed at restoring residential life and improving the quality of life for residents. Expert Andrea Casadei, appointed by the “Siamo Sirmione” group, outlined a seven-point project that includes tax breaks to encourage long-term rentals. Councilors Marcello Bertoldi and Andrea Volpi emphasized the importance of making Sirmione a livable city for its residents, rather than merely a tourist destination. The proposal includes concrete measures such as extending the flat tax rate to 10% on facilitated rentals, aimed at countering the pressure from the tourist market. The plan seeks to tackle not only overtourism but also the challenges related to residential living through interventions on access and parking, in addition to creating a permanent advisory board. Casadei suggests defining the tourism carrying capacity in the urban planning document and promoting economic diversification that includes cultural and artisanal activities. These initiatives are part of a broader commitment to ensure sustainable development for the local community and preserve the authentic character of Sirmione. Italian Version
