Sirmione and Overtourism: New Tourism Governance for the Future

A new model of tourism governance has been presented to the Municipal Council of Sirmione, aimed at addressing the phenomenon of overtourism by 2030. Titled “Sirmione 2030 – Host Better, Live Better,” the project, developed by consultant Antonio Pezzano, seeks to transform tourism management into a more structured and sustainable approach. The Council expressed support for the general guidelines of the plan, which will be formalized in the next available session after reviewing feedback from both the majority and the opposition. The model proposes strategic coordination through a Steering Committee composed of local representatives and associations, with the intent to ensure quality hospitality and livability for both residents and tourists. Mayor Luisa Lavelli emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance between the needs of the community and those of visitors. With a data-driven and collaborative approach, the program aims to continuously monitor key variables of local tourism while promoting initiatives to enhance the tourist experience throughout the year.
