Smog alert in Brescia: air pollution and particulate matter on the rise

The province of Brescia is once again facing a smog alert, particularly due to air pollution caused by high levels of particulate matter. Recent measurements from Arpa monitoring stations have revealed concerning values, with PM10 reaching 111 µg/m³, significantly exceeding the alert threshold set at 50 µg/m³. Over the weekend, peaks even hit 100 µg/m³, while the daily average over the past ten days stands at 106 µg/m³, marking ten consecutive days of exceeding limits since the beginning of the year.

The current weather conditions, characterized by a lack of rain and wind, have not allowed for a natural air exchange to alleviate the situation. So far, no extraordinary measures such as traffic restrictions have been implemented. Current regulations permit up to 35 days of exceedances annually, and the province is rapidly approaching this critical limit, leaving everyone awaiting a change in weather conditions that could provide relief from air pollution.
