SP25 Cunettone-Esenta, work begins: 2 million for road safety in Lonato

The traffic infrastructure in the area of Lonato del Garda is undergoing significant improvement. Recently, the works for the redevelopment of the SP25 “Cunettone-Esenta” have commenced. This crucial road connects the town center to the districts of Cominello, Malocco, and Esenta, continuing towards the province of Mantova. The project, fully funded by the Lombardy Region with 2,000,000 euros and included in the 2024-2026 three-year program of the Province of Brescia, aims to address issues related to road safety and local traffic congestion, adapting the infrastructure to current regulations. Details of the Intervention: Roundabout and New Junction The project addresses the current safety conditions of the road through two main modifications. A new at-grade junction will be constructed between via Malocco and the SP25 (Km 21+200), eliminating the existing curved alignment to improve visibility. Additionally, the current at-grade intersection between via Staffolo and via Fossadone will be completely transformed into a compact roundabout, with an external diameter of 45 meters. The intervention will be complemented by a new lighting system to ensure nighttime visibility and the implementation of new horizontal and vertical signage. Duration of the Construction and Traffic Changes The works, managed by the Province of Brescia, are expected to last approximately 180 days. The completion of the construction site is estimated for spring 2026. To allow for the execution of the works in the affected area (from the agricultural company on via Cominello to the intersection with via Fossadone), a temporary traffic modification has been established. A one-way traffic system will be in effect towards Castiglione delle Stiviere, with an alternative route defined for vehicles entering the City. Specifically, the following changes are planned: Via Cominello: In the section between the intersection with the SP25 and the intersection with via S. Polo, a one-way traffic system will be established, directing traffic towards the SP25. Via Cominello: At the intersection with the branch towards via S. Polo, access is prohibited for all vehicles. Via Malocco Sotto: At the intersection with the SP25, a left turn will be mandatory. Via Staffolo: At the intersection with SP25 and via Fossadone, continuing straight or turning left will be mandatory. Via Fossadone: At the intersection with SP25 and via Staffolo, continuing straight or turning right will be mandatory. Statements from Officials Emanuele Moraschini, President of the Province of Brescia, emphasized that “the synergy between institutions is the winning card,” describing the collaboration between the Region, Province, and Municipality as an example of how to address the safety of traffic in the Garda area, “which is particularly frequented by residents and numerous tourists.” The Regional Councillor for Infrastructure, Claudia Terzi, confirmed that the project, costing 2 million euros, is “entirely funded by the Lombardy Region” and is part of the Lombardy Plan. She noted that this is one of 17 planned interventions in the Brescia area, with a total regional investment of 14.5 million euros. Paolo Fontana, Provincial Councillor for Roads, reiterated the essential nature of the works for regulatory compliance and for the “common sense and responsibility of institutions.” He also specified that the project was drafted with “attention to environmental mitigation and respect for the territory.” According to the Mayor of Lonato del Garda, Roberto Tardani, this is an “anticipated and fundamental intervention for safety.” He thanked the Lombardy Region for the full funding and the Province for “the constant dialogue and demonstrated availability.” Updates on the Works All updates regarding the progress of the works will be communicated through official channels and via the District Councillors.
