Stefania Rubini triumphed at the 5th Sirmione Trophy, marking a significant return to women’s tennis after a long absence from competition. The Bologna-born player, of Jamaican descent, clinched the Open tournament in the Pearl of Garda with an outstanding performance, despite initial expectations not placing her among the favorites. Rubini showcased her talent by defeating high-level opponents, such as Isabella Maria Serban and the defending champion Federica Di Sarra, before claiming victory in the final against Jessica Bertoldo with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
The event took place in front of a large audience and highlighted the high standard of Italian women’s tennis, with ten participants in the 2.1 and 2.2 categories. The tournament director, Camillo Lombardini, expressed satisfaction with the success of this edition and the increase in the prize money to €10,000, thanks to the support of the Municipality of Sirmione and sponsors. Michela Gavazzi, the event’s organizational manager, emphasized the growing importance of the Sirmione Trophy in the landscape of Italian Open tournaments, highlighting the presence of new talents that continually enrich the competition.
