Support for Ponale Road Reopening: Signature Campaign and Local Advocacy
This evening at 8:30 PM, at the headquarters of the Sat in Riva del Garda (located in Porta S. Marco), the presentation of the 10,000 signatures collected by the “Giacomo Cis” Committee will take place to provincial assessors in support of the reopening and revitalization of the old and scenic Ponale road.
This gathering coincides exactly with the first anniversary of the tragic landslide that on February 3, 1999, claimed the life of Arco resident Gino Avancini. Provincial assessors Iva Borasi (environment and sports), Claudio Molinari (education and culture), Sergio Casagranda (public works), Dario Pallaoro (agriculture, mountain, and forests), and Marco Benedetti (industry and tourism) have been invited to the event.
Participants and motivations of the initiative
The mayors of Riva and Molina di Ledro, Cesare Malossini and Angioletta Zecchini, are also expected to attend.
“In light of recent events — writes the Giacomo Cis Committee in a statement to the relevant assessors — this delivery is especially significant, not so much for the formal act of handing over the signatures, but primarily as a moment of gathering, analysis, and serene reflection on the progress made so far and on the remaining issues to achieve the much-desired reopening of the old road, which has captivated and continues to engage the local and non-local public opinion, hikers, cyclists, history enthusiasts, and ordinary citizens.
Everyone is concerned about the fate that might be assigned to the old road if serious and concrete efforts are not made toward its reopening in the near future and, consequently, toward promoting a true gem of our region.”
