The Brescia Museums Foundation, in collaboration with the Il Vittoriale degli Italiani Foundation and Ma.co.f, announces the second appointment of the project “Il Vittoriale goes to the city!”, scheduled for Friday, June 28th at 6 pm at the Santa Giulia Museum. This event is part of the 7th edition of the Brescia Photo Festival.
The meeting will feature the participation of Antonella Monzoni and Luisa Menazzi Moretti, two of the ten female photographers featured in the exhibition “Il Vittoriale delle Italiane”, which can be visited at the Vittoriale degli Italiani until September 30th, 2024. The artists will discuss their works together with Renato Corsini, the curator of the exhibition.
The exhibition “Il Vittoriale delle Italiane” offers a new vision of Gabriele d’Annunzio’s residence through the lens of ten contemporary photographers. Each artist has created a site-specific work that explores the architecture, environment, and interiors of the Vittoriale with a personal and unique perspective. At the end of the exhibition, some of the works will become a permanent part of the museum’s path in the park, enriching the artistic offer of the Lake Garda area.
Luisa Menazzi Moretti, with her project “Ricordo, rivedo”, draws inspiration from “Il libro segreto”, d’Annunzio’s last work published in 1935. Her photographs combine excerpts from the poet’s autobiographical diary with images of the architectural and natural details of the Vittoriale, highlighted by the typical yellow and red colors of the residence.
On the other hand, Antonella Monzoni focuses her attention on the women who played a significant role in d’Annunzio’s life at the Vittoriale. Her work explores the traces left by these female figures in the rooms and objects of the residence. Among the women portrayed are Amélie Mazoyer (Aélis), Luisa Baccara, Maria Hardouin dei Duchi di Gallese, and Albina Lucarelli Becevello (Suor Albina).
Luisa Menazzi Moretti, born in Udine in 1964, lived between Italy and the United States before settling in Europe again. She has developed an international exhibition career with significant shows such as “Ten years and eighty-seven days”, presented at the Robert F. Kennedy International House of Human Rights in Florence in 2024.
Antonella Monzoni, based in Modena, is known for her humanistic approach to reportage photography. She has received numerous international awards, including the Scanno International Photographers Award in 2015 and the Best Photographer Award at the Photovernissage in St. Petersburg in 2009.
The entrance to the event is free, but reservation is recommended through the CUP – Centro Unico Prenotazioni active from Monday to Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.
