In the night between March 13 and 14, 2025, a bold raid on the State Monopoly of Lonato resulted in a massive cigarette theft. The thieves struck around 4 AM, using a ram vehicle to break through the entrance gate and subsequently forcing open the storage door with heavy equipment. Within minutes, they managed to escape with a significant haul, which did not include stored goods but rather tobacco that was already prepared for distribution to tobacco shops in Brescia.
Investigations are currently underway by the Carabinieri of Desenzano, who are trying to reconstruct the events and identify those responsible. At this time, the exact value of the stolen goods has yet to be determined, while law enforcement is gathering testimonies and evidence at the crime scene.
