An innovative initiative in therapeutic sailing has been launched by ASST Garda with the HYAK project, aimed at patients from the local Psycho-Social Centers (CPS). Initiated in 2018 on the waters of Lower Garda and in collaboration with Fraglia Vela and “Gnari di Capolaterra,” the project has recently expanded its reach to Upper Garda, involving the Polisportiva San Felice del Benaco and the Hyak APS Association. The main goal is to promote psychological well-being through a program that combines practical and theoretical sailing lessons, thereby fostering socialization and personal growth.
Fabio Teti, Director of the Complex Structure of Psychiatry at Garda Valle Sabbia, emphasizes how this activity is crucial for psychiatric rehabilitation, impacting essential aspects such as stress management and the development of autonomy. The results are evident: participants have demonstrated greater independence and stronger relationships, with some continuing to meet outside of the activities. In recent years, family members and caregivers have been integrated into the project, helping to create a stronger educational network. Roberta Chiesa, General Director of ASST Garda, has expressed confidence in the transformative power of therapeutic sailing in supporting individuals towards a new awareness and rebirth.
