Tinazzi Winery Launches Braille Labels to Support Visually Impaired

On the shelves of wine shops and supermarkets, a special bottle has arrived that opens another small but meaningful window of solidarity.

Indeed, the visually impaired can choose their wine independently by reading the label with their fingertips.

The Braille Label Project

The idea of printing labels on bottles in Braille alphabet stems from a company based in Cavaion, Tinazzi Eugenio e Figli, led by Gian Andrea Tinazzi.

This idea crowns a collaboration that has been ongoing for years, developed with the Verona headquarters of Uic, the Italian Union of the Blind.

The Scaligero partnership, within these collaborative efforts, has also hosted visits among the vineyards and cellars of Tinazzi, which includes the companies Ca’ Isidora in Lazise and Tenuta Valleselle in Bardolino, where grapes are cultivated to produce Bardolino doc, Custoza doc, and other quality wines from Verona and Veneto regions.

Olives are also cultivated on the company’s land, producing extra-virgin olive oil with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

The Contributions and Benefits of the Initiative

The “Braille Labels Project” also involves a donation by the winery of a sum for each “readable” bottle sold to visually impaired customers.

The proceeds from the initiative will be donated to Uic during the feast of Santa Lucia, the patroness of the blind.

“It is our firm conviction,” states Gian Andrea Tinazzi, “that from apparent diversity, dialogue is born, and from dialogue, growth. No one can be excluded from everyday life; we are certain that this project will help renew the noble spirit of solidarity that belongs to all of us.”
