Torbole Implements Barriers Amid Rising Lake Garda Water Levels

The only thing to do in Torbole against Lake Garda’s rising levels is to build a barrier against the waves of the ora. If the wind begins to blow, with the water level currently reached, it would ruthlessly sweep the lakeside promenade, invading a stretch of Gardesana road.

Protection measures and current situation

Much work is being done by the Nago-Torbole fire brigade (already fully engaged in emptying cellars) to establish some defense for the settlement closest to the shore. For several days now, they have been filling hundreds of sandbags to be placed behind the lake, enclosed within a barrier of metal cages.

Of course, peripheral areas are being overlooked. The quay and the access road to the port of Cor, after all, have been submerged for several days, and there is little room for invention.

Challenges and protections in nearby areas

In difficulty are also the Hotel Lido Blu and Casa Toblini, near the Sarca river estuaries, which need greater protection than others, now that the lake dangerously approaches them from close by.

Many cellars and warehouses are also flooded, and at this rate, some shops and local establishments near the small port in the historic center—one of the lowest parts of the town—may soon go under as well.
