Torri Parish Church Spotlight in New Multilingual Heritage Brochure
A promotional brochure to introduce, even abroad, the parish church dedicated to the patron saints of Torri, Saints Peter and Paul. The illustrated pamphlet, curated by writer Marina Repetto Contaldo, will be presented on Friday evening at 8:30 PM, right there in the parish church.
The initiative by the municipal library follows a recent one related to the Sanctissima Trinità chapel, located in the piazza del porto, whose 1400s frescoes have just been restored by renowned restorer Erminio Signorini.
Restorations and preservation of the churches
“Thanks to the work of Marina Repetto Contaldo,” explained Daniela Peroni, the culture councilor, “we can continue, after the brochure by Professor Giuliano Sala, the effort of presenting and promoting the historic religious heritage of Torri.”
After four years of cataloging and restoring the votive capitals scattered across the entire municipal territory and completing work on the Sanctissima Trinità church, it is now the turn of the parish church, which has so far been somewhat neglected by local historians.
Indeed, while various minor churches and those in the districts of Pai and Albisano have received special attention—some even the subject of books (volumes have been published on “The Churches of Pai” and “The Church of San Martino” in Albisano)—the parish church has not previously received similar focus.
Future projects and initiatives
“The writer’s brochure, who is also a member of the Centro Studi per il territorio benacense and an expert in ecclesiastical iconography,” Daniela Peroni previewed, “will be translated into four languages and thus promoted abroad and among tourists visiting the lake for their holidays.”
Furthermore, Marina Repetto Contaldo will soon begin writing a book about both the parish church and the ancient San Giovanni church, located next to the old cemetery. A tender for the restoration of the latter church has already been launched, after it was shamefully used as a municipal warehouse until just a few months ago.
Events related to the presentation
In any case, on Friday evening, besides the unveiling of the brochure, there will also be a performance by the Val Randina choir.
