A Holocaust conference will take place in Toscolano Maderno on Thursday, July 3rd at 8:30 PM at Palazzo Benamati. Bruno Festa will present the story of a family that escaped extermination. The narrative recounts the experiences of Bernardo Bembassat and Elisa Bottor, two Parisian Jews of Turkish descent, who found refuge on Lake Garda between 1943 and 1945, first in Toscolano Maderno and then in Costa di Gargnano. Through testimonies and historical documents, including a baptismal certificate preserved at the Parish of Costa, this fascinating account has been reconstructed.
The story, brought to light by Tullio Righettini and Remo Franzoni, has been developed by Bruno Festa and published in a work enhanced by drawings from the artist Franzoni himself. The event is free until all seats are filled and represents an important opportunity to reflect on a significant part of local history related to the Holocaust.
