Tourism Growth on Riviera degli Olivi in 2000 Despite Fewer Arrivals
The trend for the year 2000 seems to confirm the data related to a steady increase in arrivals, accompanied by a slight decrease in tourist arrivals.
From January 1st to November 30th, 1,457,432 tourists stayed on the Riviera degli Olivi, recording 8,667,724 overnight stays.
The comparison with 1999 thus shows a 2.4% decrease in arrivals and a 6.5% increase in overnight stays.
All of this results in a longer average stay, with the average duration rising from 5.45 days in 1999 to 5.94 days in 2000, an increase of half a day compared to the previous year.
Increase in tourist presence in accommodation facilities
The most significant increase in presence was registered in non-hotel accommodation facilities (+7.7%), but hotel establishments also made progress (+4.8%), except for the 2-star category, which recorded a 3.4% decrease in tourist numbers.
In terms of origin, Italian tourists generally decreased (-9.7% in arrivals and -6.3% in overnight stays), benefiting all other main nations, particularly the United Kingdom, which showed an increase of +28.4% in arrivals and +19.3% in overnight stays, followed by the Netherlands with +16.6% in arrivals and 12.3% in overnight stays.
Trends in international markets
The traditional Gardesana market, Germany, also recorded a good increase in overnight stays (+13.2%), contrasting with a decrease in arrivals (-3.2%).
The same trend was observed for the Austrian market, with a 9.8% increase in overnight stays and an 1% decrease in arrivals.
Awaiting the final December data, it can be stated without doubt that the year 2000 was positive for tourism on the Riviera degli Olivi, mainly thanks to the traditional German-speaking markets.
