Town’s Historic Center Gets New Sidewalks, Lighting, and Building Renovations

A new look for the town’s historic center. Works have already been contracted for the rebuilding of the sidewalks on a couple of streets, for the renewal and completion of public lighting, and for the external refurbishment of the building housing the elementary school. Furthermore, shortly, improvements will be carried out on the church’s esplanade and the adjacent area. These interventions, totaling approximately one billion lire — a significant amount for a small municipality whose overall budget does not exceed five billion lire.

Let’s take them in order. There are two projects related to the complete redesign of the sidewalks: one concerning via Chiesa and the other via Ca’ del Rì. The first project, with a budget of 165 million lire, involves pavement with porphyry cubes measuring 6×8 cm, laid on a sand bed, with stone curbs made of Prun stone. Existing manholes on the sidewalks will also have accessible covers made in such a way that they can be paved over with porphyry cubes.

To prevent settlement of this type of pavement, a reinforced concrete screed with a welded wire mesh is also planned. The same approach applies to the sidewalks of via Ca’ del Rì, with an estimated cost of around 100 million lire.

Public lighting and external refurbishment of the school

There are also two projects concerning public lighting: completing the system in the historic center and illuminating some critical intersections (those near the cemetery, Peagne area, the intersection at Banca Popolare, and at the split of the provincial roads to Caprino and Albarè). The historic center will be equipped with lantern-type light fixtures, made of copper and supported by appropriate steel and cast iron posts; this applies both to wall-mounted lamps and those placed on the tops of poles.

The estimated budget for these works is around 70 million lire, while illuminating the critical intersections will require no less than 120 million lire. External refurbishment of the nursery school is also planned. In addition to drainage of the perimeter walls of the building, which will be executed with an external cladding and skirting around the entire perimeter, the garden will be improved with new concrete flower beds and paving in Prun stone slabs.

A new stone roof will also be installed along the boundary walls. A new gate will be built at via Ca’ del Rì, all existing iron fixtures will be repainted, and the old metal mesh towards the Tasso stream will be replaced. The garden will be completed with the installation of new drainage covers, the placement of a turf protection grille, soil replacement, and subsequent planting with selected seeds resistant to trampling.

Furthermore, the area will be fitted with new stone benches, waste baskets, two new lighting systems, and renewed intercom and gate opening systems.
