Last Sunday, Tremosine hosted the traditional transhumance, an event that celebrates the local rural tradition and the community’s historical ties. The event began at dawn when a herd of sixty Brown breed heifers set off from the Ciapa pasture, located at 1,615 meters above sea level, to return to the valley pastures. About thirty shepherds and enthusiasts guided the animals along a twenty-kilometer route, welcomed by numerous hikers along the way.
Upon arriving at the Alpe del Garda dairy around 11 a.m., participants celebrated with a hearty snack featuring local products and live music, evoking the atmosphere of ancient customs. This collective ritual not only marks the transition of the animals from mountain pastures to valley ones but also represents an important social and cultural occasion for the community. Transhumance has been practiced in Tremosine since the late 1800s and has become a symbol of local identity, strengthening the bonds between nature and community.
