Ugo da Como Foundation Publishes New “Quaderni” Issue on Culture and History
The friends of the “Ugo da Como” Foundation have published the second issue of their cultural in-depth informational periodical “Quaderni”. The newsletter distribution, which began before the Christmas holidays, takes place at the foundation’s headquarters and is intended not only for members but also for many supporters.
Foundation’s Budget and Activities
This new “Quaderno” provides an opportunity for an end-of-year review by Irmingard Fhermann, the president, who recalls many milestones achieved during 1999. Notably, the increase in membership, which grew considerably, and the opening, after a series of renovations at the circle’s headquarters, which should remain open for half or whole days during the week as part of their objectives.
“Open,” as the president clarifies, “not only to members but also to those interested in our activities. Activities — indeed — that are not only cultural but also aimed at socialization, the beauty of spending time together, exchanging opinions…”
Current Projects and Initiatives
Additionally, the “Lonatese Historical Archive” is in an advanced stage of development, following a recent agreement with the Board of Directors of the Ugo da Como Foundation and collaborations with the elementary school of Lonato.
In 1999, the foundation’s friends also engaged in organizing numerous exhibitions and lecture series. Among many, a noteworthy exhibition about the Path of Human Rights from the Middle Ages to today, as well as topics on terraglie (clay tiles), the inhabitants of the house of the podestà through their coats of arms, and more.
Of great interest were the conversations “inside and outside the museum,” which covered a wide range of topics: from the prehistoric settlement of Polada di Lonato (Giancarlo Pionna) to daily life at the turn of the first millennium (Alessandro Robazzi), and Drugolo and Arzaga (Monica Franchi), among others.
Finally, it should be noted that a research project about the foundation, developed by students of 5ª B at the Isit in Lonato, has been published online, along with their teachers.
