Underwater Photography Competition in Toscolano Maderno: Biodiversity of Lake Garda

The underwater photography competition organized by Deep Explorers saw Juri Vecchi from Soncino emerge victorious with his photograph of a Salariopsis fluviatilis, commonly known as the “cagnetta” or “bavosa.” The image, which highlights the biodiversity of Lake Garda, was selected by a jury chaired by Roberto Prudentino and underwater photographer Vittorio Gabriotti. The award ceremony took place in Toscolano Maderno, where councilor Alessio Campanardi presented the winner with a basket of local products, emphasizing the importance of protecting the aquatic ecosystem.

Alongside the competition, a day dedicated to cleaning the lake’s bottom was also held, involving various diving groups and associations such as the Captain Paul Watson Foundation and the Sommozzatori Bresciani Leonessa. During the event, various waste items were recovered, including bottles and a shopping cart, underscoring the need to raise public awareness about the preservation of the submerged environment. Angelo Modina, the initiative’s promoter, thanked all participants for their commitment to protecting the local waters.
